General
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to strengthen our team in the Monetary Policy Section (Economic Analysis and Research Department) at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB). Our team is responsible for analyzing and assessing the ECB’s monetary policy stance, evaluating the implementation of the ECB’s monetary policy in the euro area and Austria as well as conducting research on inflation measurement and drivers of inflation in the euro area.

Your tasks

In your role you are expected to:
  • conduct innovative independent research on inflation and its determinants to contribute to ongoing and future policy-relevant discussions
  • write well-founded, policy-oriented analyses, studies, and research papers for the official publications of the OeNB, as well as other relevant external publications
  • participate in Eurosystem wide task-forces, research networks or expert groups in the area of inflation
  • develop and maintain models of inflation for policy analysis as well as analytical tools such as web scraping, big data, or dashboards
  • participate in preparing and holding monetary policy briefings for OeNB top management
  • contribute to policy notes, presentations, ad-hoc reports and speeches for the OeNB top management and senior management

Your Background

Your qualifications and skills
  • a PhD (or close to finishing a PhD) in economics or another relevant field
  • practical or professional experience in statistical and econometric techniques for inflation analysis
  • a track record in preparing analysis or research papers related to inflation
  • proficiency in state-of-the-art software packages (R, Stata, Python, Matlab, etc.) and MS Office (Power Point, Excel, Word)
  • experience working with large datasets and proficiency in common quantitative methods in economic research
  • experience working with microdata; strong interest in driving research projects based on microdata
  • excellent presentation and communication skills
  • a willingness to collaborate with and support other team members in the achievement of common goals and to build open and trusting relationships within and across teams
  • excellent written and oral command of English; basic command of German and readiness to become proficient in German; further languages would be an asset

Based on the required level of education, the annual gross salary is EUR 53.000 (full-time, excluding overtime) at the entry level. Candidates with appropriate training and several years of professional experience will receive a higher salary in line with market standards.
