Reports to Sr. Operations Manager ( Joinery)
Job Purpose The Machine Supervisor in the Joinery Industry is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and safety of woodworking machinery and equipment in a joinery or woodworking workshop.
This role involves managing a team of machine operators, ensuring production efficiency, quality standards, and safety protocols are adhered to. The Machine Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth workflow, effective utilization of resources, and timely completion of projects.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Leadership:
- Lead, train, and manage a team of machine operators, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient and effective machine operations.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Foster a collaborative and safe working environment, promoting teamwork and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Machine Operation:
- Operate and oversee a range of woodworking machines, such as saws, routers, planers, sanders, and CNC machines.
- Set up machines according to project specifications, ensuring accurate measurements and precision in cutting, shaping, and finishing wood materials.
- Production Management:
- Plan and schedule production activities to meet project deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Collaborate with project managers and designers to understand project requirements, ensuring accurate interpretation and execution of designs.
- Quality Control:
- Conduct regular quality checks to ensure that finished products meet the required specifications and quality standards.
- Identify and address any issues that may arise during production, troubleshooting machinery problems and making necessary adjustments.

- Perform routine maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and making

- Coordinate with maintenance technicians for more complex repairs and machine servicing.
- Safety Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and best practices to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, identify potential hazards, and take corrective actions to prevent accidents.
- Inventory and Supplies:
- Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, tools, and supplies, and coordinate with procurement for timely replenishment.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling processes in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, machine maintenance, and safety inspections.
- Generate reports on production metrics, including output, efficiency, and any incidents.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in woodworking or joinery is preferred.
- Proven experience as a machine operator or supervisor in the woodworking industry.
- Proficiency in operating various woodworking machines and tools.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, materials, and joinery methods.
